Annual Progress Report - Points of Pride

As part of the Annual Progress Report (APR) for the 2011-12 school year the District includes a section in the District brochure entitled "Points of Pride".  While this is not an exhaustive list it does highlight some of the significant accomplishments of students staff, and the District during the previous school year.  I am sure that many new and exciting "points of pride" will be realized during the 2012-13 school year.  That is what makes education such a rewarding experience!

2011-12 Points of Pride:

*Board of Education approves Bobcat Stadium and fine arts wing/auditorium project

*Board of Education approves 1:1 IPad initiative at the Middle School for 2012-13

*The Benton Scholarship Foundation awarded $30,500 to 53 seniors in Class of 2012.  Members of the Class of 2012 received academic scholarships totaling more than $500,000.

*Five members of the 2012 graduation class were Eagle Scouts.

*The National Honor Society inducted 28 new members based on scholarship, character,  
 leadership, and service.

*57 percent of the 2012 graduates maintained a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better.

*Jo Prusha finalist for MS Principal of the Year through the School Administrators of Iowa

*Denise Nottger finalist for Iowa Teacher of the Year

*Four seniors All-State Choir: Alicia Gage, Emily Lange, Keith White, and Thomas Zittergruen

*Madrigal Choir Perfect Ballot at State Solo/Ensemble Contest

*Concert Choir Division 1 (Superior) rating at State Large Group Contest

*Outstanding Male Soloist at Southeast Polk Show Choir Invitational

*Show Choir Division 1 (superior)  Rating State Show Choir Contest

*3A Champions at CR Jefferson Invitational

*All-State Speech 2012: Ensemble Acting, Acting, Poetry (8 students)

*14 Division I ratings at state large group contest

*30+ wins for baseball and qualifying for the state tournament

*9 Division I ratings at state individual contest

*District participation in "The Great Conversation" by studying the works of Jamie Vollmer. 

*Norway Elementary Student Council raised funds and created an outdoor classroom with 4  
  large picnic tables, a wildflower garden, bird feeders, bird bathes, and a rain gauge!

*Yearbook students were given the Neubert Award

*Kourtney Metz—Winner of Peace Poster Contest held by the Van Horne Lions.

*Brooke Timmerman - Winner Iowa DNR Take It Outside Poster Contest

*Preston Schulte - Winner Iowa DNR Take It Outside Poster Contest

*First undefeated girls basketball season in school history and qualifying for state tournament

*Thespian Troupe #875 selected and performed a one-act play at State Thespian Festival
