The Iowa CORE Standards provide standards and goals that students, teachers, and parents can easily understand. While goals and expectations are provided the standards do not limit school districts and teachers in what or how they teach. Local educators, administrators, and school boards decide how to best meet the CORE standards.
Like most learning scenarios, assessments are the key because they help measure student progress, growth, and achievement. However, the CORE standards do not mean more testing. The standards are designed to help the State and school districts develop tests that are more effective in identifying the needs of students. This should lead to better assessments, not more of them.
