The Iowa CORE

The Iowa CORE defines a higher expectation that goes beyond minimum proficiency levels for Iowa students.  Iowa schools need strong state support to implement the expectations in the Common Core Standards, along with the support needed to achieve those standards: assessment, professional development, resources, and flexibility.

The following actions will support this work:

  • The legislature should continue to provide the financial support for the implementation of the Iowa CORE.
  • Any changes to the Iowa CORE should be done with evidence that the change will ensure higher student achievement.
  • Adopt a statewide assesment to measure the full range and rigor of the Iowa CORE.
