Benton Leadership Team - Iowa Core Update

Iowa Core Progress Update

Our goal is to improve teaching and learning to ensure all Benton Community students engage in a rigorous and relevant curriculum through the use of ongoing data analysis.

LEADERSHIP

We have created a Leadership Team to study the Core Curriculum mandated by the state. This team provides guidance and direction in our work toward providing the best educational experience for all students. The Leadership Team meets once per month.

COMMUNITY

We are working to educate staff and community on processes and procedures for developing school improvement. This has included information posted and presented on the Benton webpage, newsletters, as well as board and communication team meetings.

SCHOOLS

The Leadership Team will continue to review annual assessment results to monitor progress of implementing change that will improve student learning.

ALIGNMENT

Teachers are using a curriculum mapping tool and meeting in K-12 grade bands to determine gaps in curriculum alignment across the district and ensure consistency among grade levels and buildings.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Teachers are using early dismissals and before school time to learn more effective techniques to improve student achievement including increased use of technology. Much of this work is done in Collaborative Learning Teams (CLT’s), where teachers work together by grade level and content area.

INSTRUCTION

Teachers are working in teams to improve classroom learning and create more authentic assessments of student learning.
