First Iowa School Report Card Released

The Iowa Department of Education has released the first Iowa State Report Card.  This rating system was developed in response to a 2013 legislative requirement as part of the education reform initiative in Iowa.

The Iowa School Report Card, which is available at www.educateiowa.gov/schoolreportcard<http://www.educateiowa.gov/schoolreportcard>, assigns schools one of six ratings: Exceptional, High-Performing, Commendable, Acceptable, Needs Improvement, and Priority. Schools are grouped by comparable grade configurations (elementary, middle and high schools)

Schools can use this information to help develop achievement goals, to identify professional development needs, and to reflect on how performance informs instruction. While the Iowa School Report Card only tells part of the story about Iowa schools, it does offer a high level view of student performance across a number of measures. A composite score is generated from multiple years of data, depicting a stable picture of performance across time. It is one more tool that district stakeholders can utilize to develop and implement action to prepare students for success and to help them achieve their full potential.
