Now that the November elections are over it is time to look ahead to governing instead of campaigning. The significance of turning the attention to governing has ramifications at the federal and state level. This past week Governor Branstad pledged is cooperation with the newly elected Iowa Legislature. Legislators and the Governor must endeavor to keep the focus on providing the best education possible for Iowa students as they consider a variety of school reform initiatives. They will be challenged in the face of competing priorities to appropriate the funding necessary for Iowa schools to continue providing quality learning experiences for students.
I want to encourage the patrons of the Benton CSD to contact your local state legislators between now and the opening of the January general assembly to thank them for their service and to insist that the education of Iowa students be a top priority. The Benton Community Board of Education has invited area legislators to attend the December 19th regular board meeting for this very purpose.
