This is a reminder that on Wednesday, December 5th school
will be dismissed at Noon as a result of an exciting
professional development opportunity for the Benton staff. Benton Community is collaborating with the
Mt. Vernon CSD and the West Branch CSD to bring Kevin Honeycutt to Iowa for a full
day of professional learning. The event
will be held at Mt. Vernon High School with an afternoon session for
approximately 250 educators from Benton, Mt. Vernon, and West Branch. A morning session is also scheduled and has
been opened up to school districts throughout the AEA 10 area to hear Kevin
speak on “Teaching Wired Learners”.
Kevin Honeycutt is a nationally
respected professional developer and presenter from central Kansas who spent 13
years teaching K-12 art and now travels the country and world sharing ideas
with educators. Kevin’s session on
December 5th is entitled “Trends, Tactics, and Tools for 21st
Century Learning”. The presentation
will focus on the trends in educational computing and 21st Century
skills for the classroom and efforts to support learner centered strategies and
innovation. Kevin will also provide an
evening session for school board members, School Improvement
Advisory team members, Design team members, and administrators around the theme
of meaningful integration of technology, leadership for 21st century leaders,
strategies for leading, and planning for the future. This is a unique opportunity for Benton
Community employees and the support of the Board of Education and school
community is greatly appreciated.
As a result of the schedule for the day, 7-12 Parent-Teacher
Conferences will be held from 5-8
p.m. on this evening at the MS/HS.
Thank you.
