Construction Bids Approved for Activity Program Facilities

On Monday evening the Benton Community Board of Education approved a construction bid recommendation from Shive-Hattery, Inc. for work to be completed in activity program facility areas of the MS/HS. Garling Construction, Inc. was awarded base bid 1 in the amount of $3,298,704. This project will include a new eight lane track, synthetic turf field to be used for multiple purposes,a new concession and restroom facility,storage building, and entrances to the stadium. It will also include new lighting and new bleachers. Woodruff Construction, LLC was awarded base bid 2 in the amount of $1,398,500. This project will consist of a renovation of the auditorium including new seating, lighting, and sound system. It will also include a renovation of the fine arts wing and create additional storage for the fine arts programs. The project will also include new bleachers in the gymnasium.

The outside portion of this work will commence in mid-April and the inside work will begin at the end of the current school year. The projects are expected to be completed prior to start of the 2012-13 school year. The District is paying for these improvements through a sales tax revenue bond approved by the Board on March 7th.
