Gearing Up for the Start of a New Bobcat School Year

The summer break is winding to a close as we prepare for the start of the 2017-18 school year.  This is a very exciting time of the year and I want to assure you that we look forward to the start of a new academic year with great anticipation and excitement.  Benton Community is a special place to work, to raise a family, to receive an education, and to live. I am convinced that the best days for the school district are still ahead!

One of the first steps in preparation for this school year is our district registration process.  We will be continuing with a one-day registration format on Tuesday, August 8th from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.   I would encourage you to take advantage of this registration opportunity at the Middle/High School. You may also elect to register by mail by Friday, August 4th.    I would also like to encourage you to read information provided by the school relative to school policies and procedures.  These materials are provided in an effort to keep you well informed regarding the expectations of our school district.   We want to make sure that our students, parents, and patrons understand the importance of the Bobcat Way and the culture of the school district.

Once the school year begins, our partnership becomes extremely important.  If you have questions, comments, or concerns about how your child is doing, please let us know right away.  The earlier we can address a problem together, the better we can work it out.    You are always welcome to visit our school and see for yourself how things are going.  We promise to keep you informed about your child's progress as well.  Our student management system (Power School), parent-teacher conferences, progress reports, and district assessments are some of the best ways for you to see how well your child is doing.    The Benton website (www.benton.k12.ia.us) is also an excellent source for information.   In addition, the District uses Alert Solutions for important notifications to students and parents.

Time and time again it's been proven that getting parents involved in children's education improves academic performance.  By working together, we'll be sure your child gets off to a good start now and has a successful school experience each and every year.  There are few things more valuable than a quality educational experience and a safe school environment.  Let us remember the importance of the PK-12 education and work cooperatively in providing the very best educational experience we can for our students.   Benton Community is proud of the student centered reputation it has established as a “place to belong”.

The first day of school is scheduled for Wednesday, August 23rd.  It is our goal to make this first day and all school days a special experience for our young people.  I want to extend my best wishes as we all prepare for a “great Bobcat” school year!
