Rayner, Jacobson, Willms Inducted Into
IGHSAU Track & Field Hall of Fame

Lone Tree’s Dawn Rayner, Callan Jacobson of Benton Community and Dike-New Hartford’s Hannah Willms will be inducted into the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Track & Field Hall of Fame Saturday at the 2015 Iowa State Track & Field Championships. The presentation will take place at 1:05 p.m. Saturday, May 23rd on the Jim Duncan Track. This is  the 39th class of inductees into the IGHSAU Track and Field Hall of Fame, which began in 1976.
Dawn Rayner competed at Lone Tree from 1989 to 1992, finishing her career with five state championships. Rayner’s specialty was the 400 meter hurdles, a race that she was unbeaten in after placing fourth at State in the event as a freshman. In addition to the three state crowns in the 400 hurdles, Rayner added state titles in the 100 hurdles and shuttle hurdle relay her senior season. She ended her career scoring 55 ½ points in state meets, which ranked eighth all-time when she graduated in 1992. Rayner enjoyed an all-American collegiate career at Coe, winning 12 conference titles while setting school and conference records in the 400 hurdles. Rayner was a part of nine school records at Coe and qualified for the NCAA Division III Nationals all four years. She was a three-time all Division III all-American.
Callan Jacobson of Benton Community was a 10-time state champion from 2005 to 2008. She is one of three runners to own four state crowns in the 200 meter dash while also collecting three state titles in the 100 meters. She anchored two Bobcat 4x100 meter relay teams to state championships while anchoring the 4x200 meter relay team to a state crown her senior season. Her 12.23 time in the 100 meter dash and her 25.16 clocking in the 200 meters were 3A state records until they were eclipsed last year by Davenport Assumption’s Rose Ripslinger. Jacobson competed for the Iowa State Track and Field team from 2008-to-2012. She was a part of four relay teams that earned all-Big 12 honors. Jacobson’s 10 state titles is tied for 10th on Iowa’s all-time list.
Hannah Willms owns 14 state championships, trailing only Tipton’s Ashley Miller (15) on the Iowa career state title list. Willms and Miller are also the only two athletes to win four events at the State Track & Field Meet three times. The Dike-New Hartford product enters this year’s state meet as the owner of two Iowa all-time records, the 400 meters (53.96) and the high jump (6-1). She also owns Class 2A records in the 200 meters (24.49) and the sprint medley (1:46.35). Willms was a four time champion in the 200 meters and one of three runners with four 400 meter state crowns. In addition to her 14 state titles, she also finished with four Drake Relays crowns, owning the Drake Relays record in the high jump. Willms signed with Iowa State to play volleyball and eventually transitioned to competing as a high jumper full-time for the Cyclone Track and Field team, earning all-American honors in the event her freshman season.
