State Supplemental Aid for Iowa Schools

If you have been following the actions from the State Capitol as the 2015 General Session is in the 2nd week, you know that the House supports the Governor's budget recommendation as it relates to the state supplemental aid (SSA) or per pupil increase for the 2015-16 school year.  The Iowa Education Coalition made up of several of the agencies representing Iowa schools are advocating for a 6% increase in the state supplemental aid.

For Benton Community Schools if the legislature sets the SSA at the 1.25% called for in the Governor's budget and House proposal it will result in the Benton Community Board of Education needing to consider a "budget guarantee" resolution for approximately $107,000 in order to provide any new level of funding for the school district from the current year.

Please consider being an advocate for public education by contacting your legislators and letting them know that educational funding must be a priority.
