Iowa School Board Association Hosting Annual Conference

Members of the Benton Community Board of Education will be attending the annual Iowa Association of School Board Conference in Des Moines on November 19-20.  On Wednesday selected members of boards from across the State meet for the Delegate Assembly to set legislative priorities for the session beginning in January 2015.  There are also some early bird workshops available for board members on Wednesday.  On Thursday there are three keynote speakers during the day and several breakout sessions between the keynote addresses.

I am particular interested in the final keynote speaker Shannon McClintock Miller.  Shannon is a graduate of Shellsburg CSD prior to the reorganization with Vinton and I had the privilege of teaching Shannon back in the 1980's.  Shannon is the district teacher librarian at the Van Meter CSD and one of the Library Journal's 2014 Movers and Shakers award winners.  She will be joined by several of her students to share their story of change by embracing new thinking and technologies, promoting global connectivity, and listening to the voices of our children.

It will be a special afternoon on learning and a proud moment for this educator!
